The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the nation’s borders while ensuring public safety and supporting trade.
Speaking during the World Customs Day celebrations on January 26, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, TRA Commissioner Juma Bakari said customs officers work tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent the entry of prohibited and harmful goods, including narcotics, while facilitating legitimate trade.
“Customs plays a critical role in safeguarding society. Our officers continue to work with integrity and dedication to ensure that unsafe products do not reach the public,” Commissioner Bakari said.
He added that the celebrations also recognize the contributions of Customs in protecting national security, preventing smuggling, and collecting revenue that fuels the country’s development agenda.
Commissioner Bakari highlighted that TRA collaborates closely with stakeholders and other government institutions to strengthen border control and prevent illegal goods from entering Tanzania.
The theme for this year’s celebration, “Customs Protects Society with Care and Dedication,” reflects the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure both security and smooth trade operations.
