Tarime traders thank President Samia for construction of modern market

Traders at the main Tarime Market in Mara Region have praised Samia Suluhu Hassan for the construction of a modern marketplace worth more than Sh9.6 billion, funded by the central government.

The entrepreneurs say the new facility has transformed their working environment, enabling them to conduct business in safer, more organised and peaceful conditions compared to the past—an improvement they believe is already boosting profitability and customer confidence.

Speaking on behalf of fellow traders on Friday, January 23, 2026, Rebecca William said she never imagined Tarime would one day host a large, modern market of international standards.

She expressed gratitude to the President and wished her continued good health and long life, urging her to bring more development projects to the district.

“I have worked in this market for four years. Today, we congratulate President Samia for building us this modern, world-class market. May God protect her. As the Wakurya community, we never dreamed of having a market like this, but today it is a reality. Congratulations Mama Samia, and may God bless you,” Rebecca said.

The Tarime Market is among several modern markets that have been built or are under construction across the country, designed to meet contemporary commercial standards, including durable infrastructure, improved sanitation, and enhanced security.

Authorities say such investments are strengthening local economies by creating better trading conditions, expanding income opportunities for small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, and increasing revenue for local government authorities—resources that can be reinvested in public services and community development.

The project underscores the government’s broader agenda to modernise trading infrastructure, empower small businesses, and stimulate grassroots economic growth nationwide.
