Former goalkeeper and coach of Yanga SC and the Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, Peter Manyika, will be laid to rest tomorrow at Kinondoni Cemetery.

Ibrahim Masoud ‘Maestro,’ Vice Chairman of the Tanzania Former Footballers Association, announced that all funeral proceedings will begin at Manyika’s home in Mbezi Maramba II before the final burial.

“I would like to inform the public that the funeral of our brother, former Taifa Stars captain Peter Manyika, will take place on Wednesday at 10:00 am at Kinondoni Cemetery. His body will be moved in the morning from Mwananyamala Hospital to his home in Mbezi Maramba II, and from there to the cemetery,” Maestro said.

Until his passing, Manyika served as the goalkeeping coach for Namungo FC. He died on Monday at St. Monica Hospital in Dar es Salaam, where he had been receiving treatment following a sudden illness.

Manyika’s contributions to Tanzanian football were significant, both on and off the field. As a player and later as a coach, he dedicated his life to developing football locally and nationally.

In 2003, he led the Tanzania national team to victory in the CECAFA Challenge Cup, a prestigious tournament involving East and Central African nations. Earlier, in 1999, he guided Yanga SC to the East and Central African Club Championship, and in 1998, he helped the club reach the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

Peter Manyika will be remembered as a committed sportsman whose leadership and passion left a lasting mark on Tanzanian football.
