Tanzania has been recognized on the global stage for its exceptional tourism achievements, with President Samia Suluhu Hassan officially receiving three prestigious international awards during a ceremony at Tunguu State House, Zanzibar

The accolades underscore the country’s rising profile as a premier destination for nature-based tourism.

The awards, part of the 2025 World Travel Awards, cement Tanzania’s reputation as the world’s leading safari destination and highlight the global appeal of its national treasures, including Serengeti National Park, which was named the world’s leading national park, surpassing renowned sites such as Kruger in South Africa and Yellowstone in the United States.

Tanzania also earned the title of Africa’s Leading Destination 2025, further affirming the country’s status as a top choice for international travelers.

Tourism in Tanzania has seen remarkable growth over the past five years. Annual revenue increased from USD 1.3 billion in 2021 to USD 4.2 billion in 2025, while tourist arrivals reached over 2 million, reflecting a consistent annual growth rate of 9 percent.

Beyond these figures, the awards are seen as recognition of Tanzania’s commitment to wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism, and economic development, particularly through foreign exchange earnings and job creation.

President Samia and the Directorate of Presidential Communications emphasized that these achievements demonstrate Tanzania’s strategic positioning on the world tourism map.

They are not merely trophies but a testament to the country’s efforts to balance economic growth with conservation, while promoting unique experiences for travelers from across the globe.

The announcement was signed by Shaaban Kissu, Deputy Director of Presidential Communications, and is part of ongoing efforts to showcase Tanzania’s tourism potential and attract further international investment.
