As part of the ongoing Financial Services Week celebrations at Usagara grounds, women from the “Women and Samia” group took part in a special financial literacy program yesterday, 24 January 2026.

The initiative, led by stakeholders in the financial sector, aims to equip citizens with practical skills to manage money effectively.

The program focuses on key areas such as saving, responsible borrowing, and planning finances to support personal growth and community development.

Speaking at the event, Chief Financial Development Officer at the Financial Sector Development Department, Mr. Fred Ilomo, urged the women to seize the opportunity to learn and strengthen their economic independence.

He highlighted that financial literacy is a cornerstone for building sustainable families and a prosperous nation.

Participants received hands-on training on managing small and medium-sized businesses, using banking and financial services, and creating robust financial plans.

Ms. Stella Luther Malingwi, representing the Women and Samia group, said the training was eye-opening.

“We now understand how to manage our income, avoid unproductive loans, and use financial opportunities to improve our livelihoods,” she said.

The Financial Services Week celebrations will continue at Usagara grounds until 26 January 2026, engaging different community groups with the aim of fostering widespread financial awareness across Tanga.
