President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has ordered the fast-tracking of the four-lane road connecting Tengeru to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) to honor the late Edwin Mtei, the first Governor of the Bank of Tanzania.
As part of the tribute, the President directed that all rough and damaged sections along the road be repaired by February 20 this year to ease public challenges and promote development, reflecting Mtei’s lifelong commitment to national progress.
The instructions were delivered by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba on behalf of President Samia during the final farewell ceremony for Mtei in Arusha on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
The Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Works and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) to complete the project promptly as a mark of respect for Mtei, who served the nation with integrity, dignity, and a passion for development.
President Samia also emphasized that ongoing projects at Mringa Estate, aimed at benefiting some local residents, should ensure that all rightful stakeholders receive their due, honoring Mtei’s commitment to justice.
Additionally, she directed that small-scale business areas in Arusha with poor infrastructure be identified by the Regional Commissioner and provided with funds to improve facilities, further advancing economic development in the region.
