Prime Minister observes Kilosa DC’s swift action amid flood disaster

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has commended Kilosa District Commissioner Shaka Hamdu Shaka for his hands-on leadership during the recent floods in the district, saying he moved around “like a boda-boda,” rushing from one affected area to another.

“I was very impressed to hear that Shaka Hamdu Shaka was like a boda-boda, running from one place to another to follow up on events. This is exactly the kind of leadership we expect—leaders who go out into the field, listen to citizens, and act promptly. This is what government at work truly means,” Dr. Mwigulu said.

The Prime Minister made the remarks yesterday, January 2, during a field visit to Kilosa, Morogoro Region, to assess the damage caused by heavy rains affecting many parts of the country.

He added that DC Shaka’s proactive approach reflects President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive for leaders to engage directly with citizens and address their challenges.

“This time, I came to Kilosa to witness the effects of the floods firsthand. Next time, I will go to listen to citizens even more,” Dr. Mwigulu said.

In response, DC Shaka thanked President Samia and the Prime Minister for their swift intervention. “We are grateful to the Prime Minister for coming quickly to assess the damage, comfort affected citizens, and provide guidance following the flood disaster, which has severely damaged transport infrastructure in our district,” he said.

Shaka reported that 140 households, comprising 501 residents, have completely lost their homes, while 408 houses were damaged. Sadly, the floods have claimed five lives.
