Prime Minister Mwigulu meets street vendors and motorcycle, bajaji drivers

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba today met with street vendors, motorcycle (bodaboda), and bajaji drivers during the annual convention at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam.

The event brought together key stakeholders from the informal transport and street vending sectors to discuss the future of their trades and explore ways to enhance their contribution to local communities and the national economy.

Speaking at the convention, Dr. Nchemba emphasized the importance of organized dialogue between government and informal sector operators, noting that their work plays a vital role in urban mobility and income generation for thousands of Tanzanians.


“This convention provides a platform for us to understand your challenges and identify strategies that ensure your businesses grow while supporting the development of our cities and communities,” he said.

The meeting also highlighted opportunities for improving safety, compliance with regulations, and access to financial and training support for vendors and transport operators. 

Stakeholders expressed optimism about closer collaboration with authorities and welcomed initiatives aimed at formalizing and supporting their livelihoods.
