President Samia Suluhu Hassan has empowered the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to strengthen border security through modern systems and equipment, TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda has said.
Speaking during World Customs Day celebrations at Mlimani City Hall in Dar es Salaam, Mr. Mwenda said the President facilitated the purchase and installation of 57 advanced scanners at ports, border posts, and airports.
“These scanners have helped us prevent prohibited goods from entering the country, regulate imports, and protect Tanzanians from harmful products,” he said.
He praised President Samia for providing guidance and support that has enabled TRA to effectively serve the nation. “We are grateful and committed to working with dedication and professionalism,” Mr. Mwenda added.
The TRA boss noted that investments by President Samia at the Port of Dar es Salaam and other ports have boosted revenue from TZS 800 billion to TZS 1.2 trillion, with customs now contributing 39 percent of total TRA collections.
On technology, he highlighted the TANCIS system, which allows taxpayers to access services online, improving efficiency and transparency.
Mr. Mwenda urged TRA staff to continue working with skill and commitment while congratulating them for achieving record tax collections of TZS 4.13 trillion in December 2025, an achievement unmatched in decades.
