The Tanzania Police Force has launched investigations into three separate deaths that occurred in Tarime, Arusha, and Rufiji, raising concerns over possible misconduct and excessive use of force.
The first case involves Dickson Tadeus Joseph, a resident of Rebu Senta in Tarime District, who died on January 1, 2025, at Tarime District Hospital.
Initial reports claimed he fell while running in Serengeti Street. However, a complaint filed with the police alleges that his death may have been caused by police action.
Investigations are underway, and if a police officer is found responsible, legal action will follow.
The second case concerns Viollete Uwumuhoza, a Rwandan national who reportedly took her own life on January 7, 2026, while in police custody in Arusha City.
She was detained for illegally entering and residing in the country. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation, including scientific examination, to determine the circumstances of her death.
In a third incident, a police officer from Rufiji is being held for allegedly shooting Shaban Said Luluba, a resident of Nyamwage Village, during an arrest operation on January 8, 2026.
Mr. Luluba later died from the gunshot injuries. Police say the investigation will determine whether there was negligence or excessive use of force, with further legal measures to follow if necessary.
The Tanzania Police Force has assured the public that all three cases are being investigated thoroughly and that justice will be served according to the law.
