Parents at Malama Secondary School in Mbalizi, Mbeya, can now breathe a sigh of relief after Ndele Mwaselela, a member of CCM’s National Executive Committee (MNEC) for Mbeya Region, pledged to cover the costs of extra lessons for students preparing for Form Two and Form Four examinations.
The announcement, made on January 16, 2026, during a ceremony where Mwaselela also donated 200 tables and 200 chairs to the school, means parents will no longer be asked to contribute financially for additional tuition.
“Teachers of Form Two and Form Four will be paid by Paradise Mission for extra lessons. No parent should be asked for money. I understand the struggles many families face; I was raised by a mother who sold vegetables, so I know their challenges,” Mwaselela said.
He stressed that from February 2026, it will be prohibited for parents to be asked for contributions for extra lessons, in line with CCM’s directive to ensure education is accessible without placing extra burdens on citizens.
The move has brought great relief to both parents and students. Bakari Yusuph, a student, said the initiative allows learners to focus on their studies without worrying about fees.
“Many parents could not afford the extra lessons. We thank MNEC Mwaselela and promise to work hard to reward him with excellent results,” Bakari said.
Parents also expressed deep gratitude. Sabina Salanda, a resident of Mapinduzi hamlet, said, “We didn’t know how to repay him. Life is hard, but what he has done is immense. His support has moved us to tears.”
Acting District Executive Director of Mbeya, Njile Dinday, lauded Mwaselela for his ongoing support of education in the district, noting that his contributions have positively impacted several schools.
He promised that the council will continue collaborating with all development partners to improve teaching and learning environments while urging Mwaselela to maintain his commitment to education.
