The Tanzanian government’s heavy investment in educational infrastructure is paying off, with all 18,055 primary schools now ready to receive pre-primary and Standard One students starting January 13, 2026.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, visited Iyumbu Primary School in Dodoma on January 12 to personally verify preparations and expressed satisfaction with the progress.
“Preparations here are complete, just like in every primary school nationwide. I urge parents to take their children to school promptly,” Prof. Shemdoe said.
During the visit, the Minister toured new pre-primary classrooms built using Dodoma City Council’s own revenues.
He encouraged councils across the country to follow suit, using local funds to improve school infrastructure and ensure students have a conducive learning environment.
Prof. Shemdoe stressed that quality infrastructure must be complemented by dedicated teachers to improve student performance.
“President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has invested heavily in building and upgrading schools. Strong student results are a reflection of her commitment to education,” he said.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Mhe. Rosemary Senyamule, noted that student performance has improved markedly since President Samia took office, attributing the progress to substantial investments in schools.
Headteacher of Iyumbu Primary School, Ms. Monica Nshimba, thanked the Minister for his visit and pledged that teachers are ready to work diligently to deliver quality education.
Iyumbu Ward Councilor, Mhe. Sadiki Mponyamili, expressed gratitude to President Samia for funding improvements at the school and revealed that more than TZS 150 million has been allocated to develop the local secondary school.
The government’s proactive investment in school infrastructure and emphasis on student achievement under President Samia’s leadership demonstrates a clear commitment to providing quality education for all Tanzanian children.
