Residents of Mabatini Ward in Mwanza Region have lauded the Sixth Phase Government for fast-tracking key development projects, saying the initiatives have significantly improved livelihoods and strengthened economic activity within the first 100 days of President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s leadership.
At the centre of the transformation is the ongoing construction of the Mabatini Bridge, a project residents say has eased transportation challenges and reduced the impact of recurrent flooding that previously disrupted movement and trade in the area.
Speaking in a recent interview, Mabatini resident Nyakasama Makore said the bridge construction, coupled with the installation of street lighting, has boosted safety and expanded business opportunities.
“The new infrastructure has reduced flooding risks and made it easier for traders to operate, even at night. People can now work longer hours, which has improved incomes,” she said.
The project supervisor from Nyanza Road Works, Kulwa Chigugu, said the infrastructure upgrades have enhanced security, improved mobility, and created employment opportunities, particularly for young people. He noted that more than 60 local residents have been employed through the project.
“The improved road network is supporting business growth while also providing direct income to families through job creation,” Chigugu said.
Another resident, Mariam Samweli, praised the installation of street lights, describing them as a major boost to community safety and economic activity.
“Crime has reduced, and people can now carry out business activities during the evening hours. We appreciate the Government’s commitment to improving our living conditions,” she said.
Progress is also being recorded in Mkuyuni Ward, where a road and bridge construction project is nearing completion.
Project supervisor Sefrosa Lyatuu said the contractor, Jasco Company, is finalising drainage systems and has already installed street lights in several sections.
She explained that Mkuyuni had long struggled with flooding during the rainy season, but the new bridge now 99 percent complete is expected to provide a lasting solution and improve transport efficiency.
“We are grateful to the Government for funding and supervising this project. The improved road and bridge will stimulate business and ease movement for residents,” Lyatuu said.
Project beneficiary Charles Ndelema also expressed appreciation to President Samia, saying the initiative has not only improved transport but also provided employment and strengthened household incomes.
“This project has made it easier to travel and earn a living. It is a meaningful investment in our future,” he said.
Residents in both Mabatini and Mkuyuni have welcomed the Government’s continued investment in infrastructure, expressing optimism that the completion of these projects will accelerate social and economic development across Mwanza Region.
