The Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups is pushing for accelerated implementation of the National Plan to Combat Violence Against Women and Children (MTAKUWWA II), aiming to reduce incidents of abuse across Tanzania.

Speaking on January 23, 2026, during a virtual meeting of MTAKUWWA II coordinators, Minister Hon. Dr. Dorothy Gwajima urged all responsible parties to intensify their efforts.

The meeting brought together ministry leaders, regional development officers, and social welfare officers.

“The fight against all forms of violence requires strong coordination and active engagement at all levels, from the national to the community level. Our committees at village, ward, and street levels must be well-informed and empowered to carry out their responsibilities effectively,” Dr. Gwajima said.

MTAKUWWA II (2024/25–2028/29) focuses on eight key areas, including strengthening household economies, addressing harmful cultural practices, creating safe public and online spaces, supporting parenting and family relationships, enforcing laws, and providing services for survivors of violence.

The minister emphasized the importance of public education and awareness campaigns. She urged the secretariat and committee members to strengthen communication systems to inform the public about progress and challenges.

“This approach will ensure challenges are addressed promptly, and successes are shared widely,” she added.

Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry, Advocate Amon Mpanju, called on community development and social welfare officers to prioritize training for local government officials and stakeholders.

He stressed that shared understanding would streamline implementation and improve results.

Neema Ibamba, Mara Regional Community Development Officer, expressed gratitude to the ministry for convening key stakeholders.

She noted that the gathering would help align plans, strengthen strategies, and ensure a clear direction toward achieving positive outcomes for women and children.

MTAKUWWA II is seen as a cornerstone in Tanzania’s efforts to protect vulnerable groups and foster safe, equitable communities.

With increased coordination, public awareness, and timely interventions, the ministry aims to see a significant reduction in cases of violence across the country.
