The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Iringa,  Kheri James, has urged residents to cooperate with contractors and protect construction equipment to ensure timely completion of rural electrification projects that will transform local communities.

RC James made the remarks on January 29, 2026, during the official handover of the TSh 32.3 billion project to M/s Silo Power.

The project will extend electricity to 214 sub-villages in Iringa over the next three years, benefiting more than 7,500 households.

“Electricity is the backbone of development, economic growth, business, and social services,” RC James said.

“Thanks to the vision of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Iringa has achieved full village electrification, and this new project will bring power closer to more citizens.”he added

The RC also called on the contractor to prioritize hiring local residents, ensuring that communities surrounding the project benefit directly and that the local economy grows alongside infrastructure development.

Speaking on behalf of REA, Director General Frank Mugogo said 1,458 sub-villages in Iringa already have electricity, leaving 382 without power

He emphasized that REA will continue supervising all projects to ensure professionalism and timely completion and urged local leaders and citizens to extend full support to contractors.

M/s Silo Power representative Mmbalo Msuya confirmed that the company is ready to complete the project on schedule and assured that local employment will be prioritized, enabling surrounding communities to benefit from both the electricity and job opportunities.

RC James stressed that the success of such projects depends on community cooperation, protection of infrastructure, and the active participation of citizens, underlining that electricity is a key driver for growth, trade, and overall development in Iringa.
