Residents of Ilala District in Dar es Salaam are experiencing significant improvements in their daily lives, thanks to ongoing government development projects that have upgraded local infrastructure, schools, and access to essential services.
Several roads under the Dar es Salaam Metropolitan Development Project (DMDP), including the Nyeburu–Miti Mirefu and Kigezi–Njianne roads leading to Majohe, have been completed, transforming mobility for residents who previously struggled with dusty and impassable routes.
In education, Nyeburu and Kaliani Primary Schools have received new classrooms, while Kigezi Secondary School has been newly constructed.
Nyeburu Secondary School has also been upgraded to offer education from Form One to Form Six, opening new opportunities for students in the area.
“Before these projects, local roads and school facilities were inadequate. Now, our children have better classrooms, and traveling within the district is easier. These changes are improving everyday life,” said Mr. Othman Hassan Mambo, a Nyeburu resident.
Government efforts have also improved access to public services, including the National Identification Cards (NIDA), now easier to obtain through ward-level programs.
In addition, the rapid construction of the Bangulo water tank has enhanced water availability, addressing long-standing challenges for residents.
Economic empowerment initiatives, such as council loans for youth, women, and people with disabilities, are helping locals start small businesses and improve livelihoods.
Community leaders emphasize that maintaining peace and stability is crucial for sustaining these gains.
“The impact is real. People are seeing improvements in transport, education, water, and economic opportunities. Peaceful communities allow development to thrive,” Mr. Mambo added.
