The Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Denis Londo (MP), has called on the Fair Competition Tribunal (FCT) to intensify efforts to raise public awareness about its role in promoting fair business practices across Tanzania.
During his visit to the Tribunal, Londo commended its work in delivering justice while stressing the importance of making its mandate more widely known to citizens and stakeholders.
“The Fair Competition Tribunal plays a crucial role in implementing the national competition policy, especially in hearing appeals and cases from the Fair Competition Commission and various sector regulators,” he said.
“Its work supports a favorable business environment, attracts investment, and protects consumers and market participants. Yet, many citizens remain unaware of its functions, highlighting the need for stronger public education.”he added
He further emphasized that robust institutions like the FCT are key to economic growth, helping prevent monopolistic practices and unfair competition that could undermine markets.
Londo added that effective performance by regulatory and justice institutions is vital for achieving the goals of the National Development Vision 2050, requiring accountability, fairness, efficiency, and timeliness.
The Tribunal’s Registrar, Mr. Mbegu Kaskasi, thanked the Deputy Minister for the visit and assured that the institution is fully prepared to handle appeal cases efficiently, deliver fair and lawful decisions, and safeguard the interests of citizens and businesses.
Mr. Kaskasi also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the Tribunal’s operations, including the adoption of digital platforms and expanded public awareness programs, aimed at enhancing efficiency and promoting fair market competition nationwide.
The visit is part of the government’s ongoing effort to monitor and strengthen the performance of institutions under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ensuring they effectively fulfill their mandates to support the national economy and sustainable development.
