Mchengerwa commends Spanish Tiles for boosting cancer care in Arusha

By The Respondents Reporter

The Minister of Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has commended Spanish Tiles for their pivotal role in constructing a state-of-the-art cancer care facility in Arusha, benefiting the region and neighboring areas.

Mchengerwa delivered the remarks on January 26, 2026, while laying the foundation stone for the new center at Arusha Mount Meru Regional Referral Hospital, funded under the hospital’s development program.

During the ceremony, the Minister directed the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, to ensure all medical equipment is delivered within two weeks so that Tanzanians can start accessing cancer treatment without delay.

He thanked Spanish Tiles, led by Managing Director Mr. Bobby Chadha, for their substantial contribution and called on other investors to support healthcare initiatives that reduce treatment costs and save lives.

Mr. Chadha, representing Spanish Tiles, expressed appreciation for the government’s collaborative approach with development partners and confirmed that the company responded to the President’s call to enhance health services, particularly in regions with high tourism.

He also welcomed the Minister’s proposal to identify other areas in need of healthcare services, aiming to expand access to quality treatment across the country.

The completion of the facility is expected to significantly reduce travel time and treatment costs for residents, who would otherwise have to seek care at Ocean Road Hospital or other centers both locally and abroad. The new center will now provide lifesaving services directly within Arusha.
