The Minister of Finance of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has reaffirmed the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar’s commitment to improving social services, particularly healthcare, for its citizens.

Ambassador Omar made the remarks while inaugurating the modern Kinduni Health Centre, built at a cost of TZS 3.77 billion in North B District, North Unguja.

The ceremony was part of celebrations marking the 62nd anniversary of Zanzibar’s historic Revolution.

He said the new facility reflects the government’s achievements in the health sector under the leadership of Zanzibar’s eighth-term President, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, ensuring citizens have access to quality healthcare at all levels.

“The government has built and equipped ten district hospitals across Unguja and Pemba and prioritized strengthening basic healthcare infrastructure since 2023/2024 to deliver better services to communities,” Ambassador Omar said.

He expressed his satisfaction with the continued improvements under President Mwinyi’s leadership and urged communities to maintain the facility so it continues to provide high-quality care for many years.

The Kinduni Health Centre will serve over 19,546 people, including 782 infants under one year, 2,834 children under five, and 5,336 women of reproductive age from the four shehias of Kinduni, Mkataleni, Mahonda, and Mnyimbi, as well as surrounding areas.

Zanzibar Government Health Ministry Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mgereza Mzee Miraji, explained that the centre was fully funded by the government at TZS 3.77 billion, constructed by Mazrui Building Contractors Ltd, and supervised by the Zanzibar Buildings Agency (ZBA).

The facility consists of a modern three-story building (G+2) and will operate 24 hours a day. It will accommodate 30 inpatients at a time and provide services including outpatient care, maternal and child health, ENT and eye clinics, hypertension and diabetes clinics, dermatology, and dental care.

North Unguja Regional Commissioner, Cassian Galoss Nyimbo, said the Kinduni Health Centre will bring healthcare services closer to residents, eliminating the need to travel long distances for treatment.

Residents of Kinduni and Mahonda expressed gratitude to the government for establishing the modern health centre. They praised its digital systems, modern diagnostic equipment, and ICT facilities, which will enhance access to quality healthcare in their communities.
