The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, today received a special message from Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The message was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, who led a Tanzanian delegation to the UN headquarters.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Guterres praised Tanzania’s continued role as a “reference point for peace and social cohesion in Africa and beyond.”

He highlighted the country’s reputation as a symbol of stability, noting its resilience in safeguarding national unity during the General Elections held on October 29, 2025.

The Secretary-General underscored the importance of a meaningful and inclusive national dialogue to address the underlying causes of the post-election violence.

He emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He also reaffirmed the UN’s full support for Tanzania’s ongoing initiatives, including efforts connected to the work of the Commission of Inquiry established in the country.

This engagement reflects Tanzania’s growing role in promoting peace, stability, and social cohesion both within the region and on the international stage.
