The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has introduced additional Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train services to accommodate passengers affected by travel disruptions that occurred on December 28.

In a public notice issued on Monday, TRC said the decision aims to ease congestion and ensure uninterrupted passenger movement following the disruption that affected both Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) and SGR operations.

According to the corporation, the normal SGR timetable for December 29 remains unchanged. However, extra trips have been added on high-demand routes, particularly between Dodoma and Dar es Salaam, as well as Morogoro and Dar es Salaam, to meet increased passenger needs.

On the Dodoma–Dar es Salaam route, additional trains have been scheduled at 11:15 a.m., 12:00 noon using Electric Multiple Units (EMU), 8:15 p.m., 9:00 p.m. (EMU), 11:15 p.m., 12:00 midnight (EMU) and 12:40 a.m. Extra services from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma will depart at 12:00 a.m., 1:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m. (EMU), 3:30 a.m., 4:30 a.m. (EMU) and 12:55 p.m.

Meanwhile, passengers travelling between Morogoro and Dar es Salaam will benefit from an additional early morning service departing Morogoro at 3:50 a.m., while another train from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro is scheduled to leave at 10:00 p.m.

TRC apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, reliable and efficient rail transport services.

The statement was issued by TRC’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Mr Fredy Mwanjala.
