Morogoro — The Tanzania Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI) is set to adopt a new digital system for preparing its annual reports in a move to transparent, efficient, and enhance compliance with global EITI standards.
The training, held on December 1, brought together government officials and representatives from mining, oil and natural gas companies.
The system, currently under pilot training, will integrate data from government institutions and extractive companies, cutting down preparation time and ensuring reports are published promptly.
Speaking on behalf of the TEITI Executive Secretary, the Head of Transparency and Accountability, Mr. Erick Ketagory, said the new platform marks a major step toward fulfilling both international EITI requirements and national laws governing transparency in the extractive sector.
“This system is crucial for achieving full compliance with EITI criteria. It will also enable seamless interoperability among government systems, as directed by the government,” Mr. Ketagory said.
He added that once operational, the system will connect the databases of key government institutions directly to TEITI’s reporting platform, simplifying verification and enhancing data accuracy.
TEITI’s Head of ICT, Mr. Bakari Birika, noted that the new system is designed to reduce report-preparation timelines and ensure that submissions meet global reporting deadlines.
“The platform will significantly shorten the reporting cycle and guarantee that TEITI reports are released on time, as required,” he said.
The Acting Executive Secretary thanked stakeholders for their continued support and reaffirmed TEITI’s commitment to strengthening accountability and openness in the extractive industries.
