Commission seeks to heal victims of October 29 unrest

The Commission of Inquiry into the unrest during and after the October 29, 2025 general election is set to engage victims and stakeholders to ensure healing and accountability, former Chief Justice and Commission Chairman Mohammed Chande Othman has said.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, December 1, 2025, Judge Chande emphasized that the Commission aims to address both the experiences of those affected by the violence and the actions of individuals involved in the incidents.

He said the Commission will meet political parties, civil society organizations, election supervisors, the National Electoral Commission, religious leaders, and other key actors to gather insights on the events.


“The process will also include entrepreneurs, businesspeople, community leaders, local government authorities, security agencies, journalists, private sector representatives, and development partners,” Judge Chande added.

 “Our goal is to understand the full picture, promote reconciliation, and ensure accountability for all involved.”he added

The Commission’s approach underscores the importance of inclusive dialogue in restoring peace and confidence among citizens affected by the unrest.
