Tanzania’s recognition as the Leading Safari Destination for 2025 by the World Travel Awards (WTA) has given fresh momentum to the country’s efforts to showcase new and emerging tourism products within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to global markets.
Senior Assistant Commissioner for Tourism Services, currently attending the awards ceremony in Bahrain, said the international honour strengthens Tanzania’s visibility and opens new opportunities to promote Ngorongoro’s unique attractions as global tourism continues to grow.
Tanzania received the prestigious accolade during the 32nd edition of the WTA, held on December 6, 2025, at the Exhibition World Centre in Bahrain.
Speaking after the event, Commissioner Kobelo said the global competition in tourism demands continuous improvement, noting that Ngorongoro is poised to scale up infrastructure development and intensify promotion of new tourism offerings.
These include the Ngorongoro–Lengai Geopark Museum, the world-renowned Olduvai Gorge, as well as cultural and heritage attractions that reflect Tanzania’s deep history.
He said strengthening these products will help Tanzania expand its reach internationally and increase its chances of competing for more global awards in the future.
Kobelo also highlighted Tanzania’s reputation as a safe and diverse destination, with vast natural and cultural resources that offer unique experiences for international travellers.
He noted that ongoing global interest generated by promotional films such as The Tanzania Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania continues to contribute to growing visitor numbers and national revenue.
Tanzania is expected to host the 2026 World Travel Awards, a milestone that will gather tourism stakeholders from around the world and further position the country as a leading centre for tourism excellence, innovation, and investment.
