By Prosper Makene

Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo (MP), presented a statement to the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) Committee on December 5, 2025, regarding the unrest that occurred in Tanzania on October 29, 2025.

In his statement, Minister Kombo expressed regret over the unexpected events that led to significant damage, including destruction of infrastructure, government offices, and private property, as well as loss of life and injuries.

He noted that President Samia Suluhu Hassan had established an Independent Commission of Inquiry to investigate the unrest, with a three-month mandate to submit a comprehensive report.

The Commission aims to identify the causes of the unrest and provide recommendations for future action, which will serve as a basis for national dialogue and reconciliation.

Minister Kombo assured CMAG of Tanzania's commitment to cooperating with the international community to promote peace and development, and requested the committee's understanding and patience as the Commission completes its work.

Upon completion of the investigation, Tanzania will engage in open dialogue with the international community.
