Tanzanian boxers have sent a strong warning to their international opponents ahead of the seventh edition of the Knockout ya Mama boxing tournament, confidently declaring their readiness to dominate the ring and ensure all major belts remain in the country.
The high-profile event is set for December 31 at the Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama, Dar es Salaam, under the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Africa banner.
The main attraction will see Tanzania’s Frank Shegambe take on Ghanaian challenger Hatuna Osumanu in a WBO Africa title bout.
Speaking ahead of the fight, Shegambe said he is physically and mentally prepared, crediting his readiness to disciplined training and strong support from his team.
He thanked God for good health and expressed appreciation to Mafia Boxing Promotion for trusting him with such a major contest.
Shegambe also acknowledged President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her continued efforts to promote sports and empower young people, noting that the government’s support has inspired athletes across the country to aim higher.
“I have trained thoroughly under my coaches and I am ready for the task ahead. This fight is another step towards my long-term goal of competing against top boxers in Europe,” Shegambe said.
Another local contender, Yusuf Changalawe, who will face Abdul Kisenga, said December 31 will be a true test of skill and determination.
He noted that preparations are progressing well and that his confidence is at its peak as the fight night approaches.
Changalawe called on Tanzanians and boxing fans to attend the event in large numbers, promising exciting action and high-quality entertainment.
He also thanked Mafia Boxing Promotion for the opportunity, saying the platform could open doors for bigger international bouts in the future.
The fight card also features several other exciting matchups, including a WBO Africa title bout between Emmanuel Martey and Asemahle Wellem.
Saidi Mkola will clash with Said Hakimu, while Yohana Mchanja is scheduled to face Filipino boxer Renz Rosia.
In other bouts, Amiri Matumla will take on Lion Sebastian, Tano Juma will battle Zambia’s Saimon Ngoma, Kalolo Amiry will face Issa Bashana, Ibrahim Mafia will square off against India’s Rama Krishana, and Iddy Pialalo will meet Richard Mtangi.
