As Tanzania celebrates 64 years of independence, the Tanzania Bloggers Network (TBN) has called on citizens to reflect on the country’s journey and safeguard the unity and peace that have underpinned its progress.
The network emphasized that irresponsible behavior online poses a real threat to the values upon which the nation was built.
In a statement issued on Monday, TBN Chairperson Beda Msimbe highlighted that independence was not merely a historical milestone but a continuous responsibility.
Drawing inspiration from the words of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, he stressed that true sovereignty depends on self-reliance and a shared commitment to nation-building.
“Independence was granted so that we could build our own future,” Msimbe said, urging bloggers and digital influencers to use their platforms to strengthen national cohesion rather than sow division.
He noted that Tanzania’s stability and social unity have been the backbone of its development over the past six decades, and maintaining this foundation requires conscious effort from every citizen.
Msimbe recalled former President Benjamin William Mkapa’s wisdom that peace is not automatic; it must be actively protected to ensure meaningful progress.
Allowing misinformation, incitement, or divisive content online, he warned, risks undermining the very achievements that generations of leaders have worked to secure.
Acknowledging Tanzania’s leadership across the years, Msimbe reflected on the vision of former President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, noting that every leader has contributed uniquely to nation-building.
He highlighted the current administration under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose 4R philosophy Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms, and Rebuilding aims to heal divisions, strengthen institutions, and renew the national vision.
For bloggers and content creators, Msimbe said, influence comes with responsibility. The network encourages citizens to support ongoing reforms and use digital platforms to foster dialogue, understanding, and unity.
He particularly urged young Tanzanians, who are the most active online, to contribute constructively to conversations shaping the nation’s future.
“Independence is not only a celebration of our past but also a commitment to our future,” Msimbe said.
“Our words and actions should uplift the nation. Every citizen has a role in protecting peace, promoting development, and ensuring that Tanzania’s progress continues uninterrupted.”he added
