The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the health of vulnerable citizens by allocating TZS6.7 billion in the 2025/26 financial year to fund specialized medical treatment for 760 patients who cannot afford the cost of advanced care.
The announcement was delivered on December 8, 2025, by Minister for Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, during a working session with health officers from the Ministry, held at the Muhimbili National Hospital.
Minister Mchengerwa said the allocation follows the strong achievements recorded in the 2024/25 financial year, where 677 patients received fully funded, high-level medical services that would otherwise have been out of reach.
“These treatments included bone marrow transplants for children with sickle cell disease, kidney transplants, heart surgeries, cochlear implants for children with hearing difficulties, cancer treatment, and hip replacement procedures,” he noted.
“Because of the significant impact these interventions had on people’s lives, President Samia has approved a dedicated budget to continue this support.”he added
According to the Minister, President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration is placing citizens at the centre of health service delivery by ensuring that no Tanzanian is denied specialized treatment simply because they cannot pay.
“The President is committed to guaranteeing that every citizen who needs expert medical care receives it without financial obstacles,” he emphasized.
