Tanzania rainfall summary and forecast for December 1–20, 2025

By The Respondents Reporter

Tanzania experienced variable rainfall between December 1 and 10, 2025, influenced by global atmospheric conditions.

High-pressure systems over the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in the Azores and Siberia, strengthened, while those in the Southern Hemisphere, including St. Helena and Mascarene, weakened.

This shift caused the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) to move southward, affecting the Lake Victoria basin, western regions, southwestern highlands, and nearby areas.

The movement of moist winds from the Indian Ocean toward the coastal belt also reinforced rainfall, especially during the last five days of the period.

Consequently, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded over parts of the Lake Victoria basin, western regions, and southwestern highlands, with occasional showers in the coastal belt and northeastern highlands.

Looking ahead to December 11–20, 2025, meteorologists predict that Northern Hemisphere high-pressure systems will continue strengthening, while Southern Hemisphere systems will remain weak.

This is expected to maintain the ITCZ over southern parts of the country, enhancing rainfall-generating conditions in the Lake Victoria basin, western and central regions, southwestern highlands, and southern areas.

Moist winds from the Indian Ocean will continue to strengthen rainfall along the coastal belt. During this period, residents can expect rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over the Lake Victoria basin, western regions, and southwestern highlands, with scattered showers in the northeastern highlands, central areas, northern and southern coasts, and southern regions of the country.

Authorities urge communities to remain vigilant, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, and to follow updates from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority to ensure safety and preparedness.
