The Tanzania Police Force has announced a ban on demonstrations planned for December 9, 2025, following concerns that these gatherings do not meet legal requirements and may pose risks to public safety.
Police spokesperson David Misime reminded citizens that, under the law, anyone planning a public demonstration must submit a written notice to the local police authority, including details such as the location, time, purpose, and other relevant information as published in the government gazette. The planned December 9 protests have not followed these procedures.
Authorities have also raised concerns about calls circulating on social media encouraging participants to carry weapons or disrupt essential services.
Reports indicate that some organizers have urged demonstrators to block roads, halt operations at Dar es Salaam Port, and restrict access to hospitals, all of which are illegal and pose serious risks to the community.
The Police are calling on all Tanzanians and residents in the country to prioritize safety and reject involvement in activities that could lead to harm or legal consequences.
Citizens are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or threats to public safety through the following numbers: 111, 112, 0699 998899, and 0787 668306.
“Our priority is the safety of every citizen. We urge everyone to remain calm, follow the law, and avoid situations that could endanger themselves or others,” the statement said.
