The Government of Tanzania has announced that the United States has placed the country under partial visa restrictions, affecting Tanzanians traveling to the U.S.
The decision, made public by U.S. President Donald Trump on 16 December 2025, comes after reports indicated that a number of Tanzanian nationals had overstayed their visas.
The overstay rates were found to exceed acceptable limits under U.S. immigration policies, prompting the partial restrictions.
Officials emphasized that the restrictions are not comprehensive. Tanzanians who meet the U.S. immigration requirements will continue to be allowed entry, following standard procedures and assessments.
The Tanzanian Government said it will continue diplomatic engagements with the United States to address the matter in the best interest of its citizens.
Travelers are urged to strictly adhere to visa conditions to avoid personal consequences and protect the country’s international standing.
