Tanzania has strengthened its position as a top global tourism destination, winning five prestigious awards at the 32nd World Travel Awards 2025 held in Bahrain.
The accolades underscore the country’s growing influence in international tourism and the combined efforts of government leadership, private stakeholders, and strategic promotion initiatives.
Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), said the awards reflect the country’s commitment to showcasing its unique attractions to the world.
She highlighted the pivotal role of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in promoting Tanzania internationally through initiatives such as the film “Tanzania: The Royal Tour”, which has opened doors for global recognition.
“These awards are a clear acknowledgment of Tanzania’s tourism potential and the coordinated efforts to position our country on the world stage. They reflect not just our natural wonders, but also the professionalism and quality of our tourism services,” Dr. Kijaji said.
Tanzania retained the title of World’s Leading Safari Destination for the third consecutive year. Serengeti National Park won the World’s Leading National Park 2025 award, while Zanzibar’s Spice Islands was recognized as Africa’s Leading MICE Destination for meetings, incentives, conferences, and events.
Private sector players also earned international recognition. Serengeti Balloon Safaris was named the World’s Leading Balloon Safari Company, while Jumaira Thanda Resort on Mafia Island was awarded the World’s Leading Island Resort.
These awards highlight Tanzania’s high standards in hospitality, tourism experiences, and sustainable practices.
Dr. Kijaji announced that Tanzania will host the 2026 World Travel Awards, calling for early preparations and strategic planning to showcase the country’s tourism potential to a global audience.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Hassan Abbasi noted that the awards are the result of strong collaboration between government institutions and private stakeholders, emphasizing Tanzania’s ability to compete with top destinations worldwide.
The event in Dodoma was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Permanent Secretary Nkoba Mabula, Director of Tourism Dr. Thereza Mugobi, Director of the Tanzania Tourism Board Ephraim Mafuru, TANAPA CPA Commissioner Musa Nassoro Kuji, and other key stakeholders in the tourism and conservation sectors.
