Tanzanian youth are set to benefit from enhanced technical education through the Tanzania-China Engineering Technology Institute, following a high-level meeting between Tanzanian and Chinese partners at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT).

Senior officials from Tanzania’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, China’s Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering (CQVIE), Group Six International Ltd., and DIT agreed to fast-track the establishment of the institute.

The initiative aims to equip young Tanzanians with practical engineering skills tailored to the country’s industrial and economic needs.

Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, said the partnership will expand opportunities for youth to access quality technical training, practical experience, and exchange programs.

“This institute will empower our young people with the skills needed to drive industrial growth and boost employability,” he stated.

The agreement prioritizes six key areas: academic programs, practical training, teacher development, technical standardization, student mobility, and research and innovation.

It also offers Tanzanian students chances to study in China through fully funded, partially funded, and self-sponsored programs.

Huang Zaisheng, Chairman of Group Six International Ltd., highlighted the institute’s role in nurturing skilled professionals to support Tanzania’s industrialisation.

CQVIE representative Yang Qing confirmed the institute’s commitment to teacher training, student programs, and research development to ensure world-class skill acquisition for Tanzanian youth.

The Tanzania-China Engineering Technology Institute is expected to open pathways for employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation, contributing to the country’s industrial and economic transformation.
