TANESCO reports temporary disruption in electricity token purchases

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced a temporary disruption affecting the purchase of electricity tokens (LUKU) through mobile phone platforms and banking channels, citing a technical challenge in its power vending system.

In a public notice released on Friday, the national power utility said the problem has made it difficult for customers to buy electricity units using digital payment options, including mobile money services and banks.

TANESCO said its technical team is working in close collaboration with experts from the Government e-Payment Gateway (GePG) to address the challenge and ensure the system returns to normal operations as soon as possible.

As a temporary measure, customers have been advised to purchase electricity tokens from authorised LUKU vending outlets available across the country.

The utility company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and assured customers that all necessary efforts are being made to restore the service promptly.

The statement was issued by the Director of Communication and Customer Services at TANESCO headquarters in Dodoma.
