TANESCO refutes false social media claims on power outages

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has strongly dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging the utility’s involvement in unlawful activities linked to recent power disruptions.

In a public notice issued from its headquarters in Dodoma, TANESCO clarified that the reports being shared online are “inaccurate and misleading,” stressing that they have no connection to the company’s operations in electricity generation, transmission or distribution.

The company noted that power outages may occur due to several technical factors, including unexpected faults or scheduled maintenance aimed at improving service quality.

TANESCO emphasized that these technical activities are professionally coordinated in line with established procedures and are not related in any way to criminal incidents as alleged in the viral posts.

“TANESCO urges members of the public to avoid creating or spreading unverified information that may mislead communities and harm the image of the institution,” the notice stated.

The utility reassured customers that it remains committed to carrying out its mandate with professionalism and integrity, working to ensure reliable access to electricity across the country.

The statement was signed by the Director of Communication and Customer Services at TANESCO Headquarters in Dodoma.
