Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has taken a major step toward strengthening its conservation agenda by starting preparations for its next five-year Strategic Plan (2026/27–2030/31).

Today, Commissioner CPA Musa Nassoro led a high-level management meeting to review the current Strategic Plan (2021/22–2025/26) and extract lessons to guide the development of the new plan.

The Strategic Plan aims to ensure that TANAPA’s work is fully aligned with national development priorities, including the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP IV), Tanzania’s Vision 2050, the ruling party’s manifesto, and regional as well as international conservation commitments.

The meeting also featured key facilitators and experts, including Ms. Sakina Mwinyimkuu, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation from the Prime Minister’s Office for Policy, Parliament, and Coordination; Dr. Wilhelm Kiwango, an advisory lecturer from the University of Dodoma; and Mr. Herbert Lyimo, TANAPA’s Chief Conservation Officer.

Commissioner Nassoro emphasized that the new Strategic Plan will build on successes and lessons from the current plan, aiming to strengthen TANAPA’s role in protecting Tanzania’s unique wildlife and natural heritage while contributing to sustainable national development.

He highlighted the importance of broad stakeholder engagement to ensure that the plan reflects the needs of both conservation and local communities, promising a roadmap that balances ecological protection with social and economic benefits for Tanzanians.
