Simba Club transformation nears completion, leadership confident

By Flora Mkoloma

The leadership of Simba Sports Club has confirmed that the club’s transformation process, which began in 2017, is now in its final stages and is expected to conclude soon.

Speaking to journalists today, Simba Board Chairman Crescentius Magori said the process faced many challenges but has reached a significant milestone.

He explained that the reforms were not easy due to the club’s management system, noting that similar models are more commonly applied abroad, such as in Germany.

Magori revealed that the last board meeting approved a new constitution, which is expected to be officially registered within the next day or two.

He described the development as a major achievement for the club after eight years of highs and lows.

He added that Simba is moving towards clear agreements that define the responsibilities of investors and club members.

“Membership cards, which had been suspended, will now be issued again. I assure you that Simba will have the largest membership base, not only in Tanzania but also internationally,” Magori said.

The chairman also highlighted that the club is preparing significant upgrades, including modern membership cards with multiple functions, an improvement over the current system in Tanzania.

Once the transformation is complete, the investor will begin implementing infrastructure projects, including the construction of a modern, five-star standard training ground in Bunju.

“We are fortunate to have an investor who is a Simba member. Even when appointing the board, he chooses fellow Simba members. This will put an end to rumors we are all one,” Magori said.

Speaking on behalf of the board, he expressed gratitude to members, fans, stakeholders, and the government for supporting the club’s progress, and thanked God for the achievements so far.

He also noted that Simba is one of the most followed football clubs in Africa on social media, ranking second only to Egypt’s Al Ahly.

Regarding the team’s performance on the field, Magori attributed inconsistent results to changes in the coaching staff after the season began and injuries to key players, including the central defender and the first-choice goalkeeper.

He emphasized that failing to reach the CAF Champions League quarter-finals was disappointing but not intentional, noting that even last season, some teams did not qualify and were not heavily criticized.

Meanwhile, Simba Vice Chairman and Club Chairman Murtaza Mangungu dismissed claims of a rift between the club leadership and the investor.

“I speak with the Board Chairman regularly, and as of yesterday evening, we had our last conversation. There are no secrets. The club continues with its plans, and all necessary information is shared openly,” Mangungu said.
