Reconciliation key to lasting peace

Tanzanians are calling on communities and civic groups to actively engage in reconciliation efforts, stressing that dialogue and understanding are essential tools for resolving conflicts and building national unity.

The appeal follows repeated statements by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has underscored the importance of leading a national reconciliation process to foster a shared vision for Tanzania, particularly as the country moves toward finalizing a new Constitution.

Residents from Ilala, including Ridhiwan Hamidu Muhimu and Mansour Bakari, told The Citizen that hatred and disputes are not part of Tanzanian culture, and that reconciliation will ensure fairness and social harmony.

“Reconciliation will allow everyone to receive what they deserve. Without dialogue, we cannot achieve stability, and without reconciliation, lasting peace in the country is impossible,” said Ridhiwan.

Bakari also reflected on the violent incidents of October 29, 2025, noting that illegal demonstrations do not solve societal challenges.

“Such actions only create more problems and disrupt ordinary citizens’ lives instead of providing solutions,” he said.

Citizens believe that embracing reconciliation will pave the way for constructive dialogue, reduce conflicts, and strengthen national cohesion, ensuring that Tanzania remains peaceful and united.
