Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, has urged students at the National Institute of Transport (NIT) to remain focused on their studies and avoid distractions that could undermine their academic and personal goals.

He said that education is not only crucial for individual development but also for the well-being of their families and the progress of the nation.

Speaking during his visit to the institute, RC Chalamila reminded students of the many challenges they might face while pursuing their studies.

“In your journey for knowledge, you will encounter many temptations. It is important to remain focused and have clear plans to achieve the goals that brought you to this institution,” he said. “Your commitment today will determine the life you dream of tomorrow.”

He highlighted the improvements made under the sixth-phase government, including enhanced infrastructure and better access to resources, such as financial support.

“Unlike in previous years, students today have more opportunities to excel. You must use these advantages wisely and avoid distractions, especially online, that could derail your ambitions and affect your future, including your ability to support your family,” RC Chalamila added.

Addressing concerns about future employment, he stressed that high academic performance is essential.

“Government and private sector jobs, both locally and internationally, increasingly demand graduates with excellent results and innovative skills. Let no distraction rob you of your qualifications and your chance to succeed,” he said.

Prof. Prosper Mgaya, NIT Principal, and Ubungo District Commissioner, Advocate Albert Msando, praised the government for strengthening the learning environment and urged students to dedicate themselves to their studies while relying on the government to address institutional challenges.

Mr. William Mvungi, President of the NIT Student Government, expressed gratitude to the government for continuously improving the institute’s facilities.

He noted that NIT is celebrating 50 years of service and commended efforts to make the learning environment more supportive for students.

RC Chalamila’s visit underscored the importance of discipline, focus, and planning in shaping successful graduates who can contribute to Tanzania’s development.
