President Samia Suluhu Hassan has called on Tanzanians to strengthen national unity and protect the country’s long-standing stability, saying global competition over resources and influence has made Tanzania a focal point in international politics.
Speaking during a meeting with elders from Dar es Salaam, President Samia said Tanzania's growing economic profile and strategic resources have increased global interest, making it essential for citizens to work together in safeguarding the country's peace and sovereignty.
“Our nation is blessed with natural wealth and a unique position in global trade and politics,” she said.
“This has made Tanzania more visible, more important and naturally, more scrutinised. What matters now is how we respond as a united people.”she added
President Samia noted that pressures from outside are not uncommon for countries with rising economic potential.
However, she insisted that Tanzania will continue to pursue partnerships that are equitable and respectful of its independence.
“Tanzania will remain open to cooperation, but we will do so based on fairness and mutual benefit,” she said.
“We cannot allow anyone to undermine our sovereignty. Our decisions, priorities and future belong to us.”she added
She dismissed attempts by some foreign actors to prescribe what the country should do, describing such attitudes as outdated and inconsistent with modern international engagement.
“Some still behave as if they can lecture us on how to run our affairs,” President Samia said. “But Tanzania is no longer a silent participant in global discussions. We are a partner an equal partner.”
The President urged elders and community leaders to continue nurturing peace at local levels, saying political stability is one of Tanzania’s strongest assets and must not be compromised.
“Our unity is what keeps Tanzania strong,” she said. “We cannot allow external distractions or internal disagreements to weaken the progress we are making.”
She emphasised that the government will maintain its diplomatic stance of non-alignment while expanding economic cooperation that directly benefits Tanzanians.
She added that national advancement depends on citizens rejecting manipulation and staying focused on shared goals.
“Tanzania is rising,” President Samia said. “Let us protect our stability, value our identity, and move forward together.”
