Pemba Parliamentary election petitions complete preliminary stage

By The Respondents Reporter

The fourteen (14) parliamentary election petitions filed by former ACT-WAZALENDO candidates in Pemba have successfully completed all preliminary court procedures and are now awaiting formal hearing dates.

The cases were mentioned today for the first time at the Zanzibar High Court, Pemba Circuit, before Deputy Registrar Chausiku K. Kuya.

Deputy Registrar Kuya confirmed that all initial procedures have been concluded. She noted that the next step involves submitting the case files to the Chief Justice of the United Republic of Tanzania, who will assign the judges to hear the petitions.

The defense is represented by lawyers from the Attorney General’s Office, appearing on behalf of the Government and the National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The petitioners are represented by a team of lawyers led by ACT-WAZALENDO’s Chief Legal Counsel, Advocate Msomi Omar Said Shaaban.

The petitions cover the constituencies of Kiwani, Chambani, Mkoani, Ziwani, Ole, Wawi, Chonga, Chake Chake, Kojani, Gando, Wete, Konde, Micheweni, and Wingwi.

The court has adjourned the cases until the petitioners submit the required applications and receive formal court notices for the next stages of the hearing.
