ACT Wazalendo Chairman Othman Masoud Othman has urged people to condemn wrongdoing and oppression, even when committed by government leaders, warning that silence allows injustice to thrive.
Speaking after Friday prayers at Masjid Taq-wa in Nungwi, Othman said societal inaction exposes communities to corruption, violence, and actions that go against the teachings of Allah.
“Today, we are witnessing the consequences of elections. Is this the way we are meant to live?” he asked, stressing the importance of speaking the truth, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable.
He reminded the public that Zanzibar has long been a model of civility and warned that its reputation should not be compromised in the struggle for power. “We must protect our dignity. Oppression is the enemy of life,” he added.
Othman also encouraged people to turn to Allah in prayer and seek justice for those who have been wronged.
Earlier, Masjid Taq-wa’s Khatib, Sheikh Abdallah Hijja, said that while some individuals use wealth or positions to dominate others, ultimate justice lies with Allah, who alone has the power to hold wrongdoers accountable.
Othman’s remarks highlight the moral duty of individuals to challenge abuse, promote fairness, and uphold integrity in society.
