Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, on December 12, 2025, visited the Magufuli Modern Railway Station, inspecting the services provided and engaging with the Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) management to understand ongoing projects.
During the visit, RC Chalamila toured the commercial outlets at the station and met with TRC Chief Executive Engineer, Machibya Masanja, who outlined the corporation’s plans to expand modern railway services in major cities.
The Regional Commissioner reassured TRC that Dar es Salaam remains a safe city, encouraging both the corporation and commuters to feel secure while using the railway.
He also emphasized the region’s commitment to protecting railway infrastructure, in collaboration with leaders from other regions along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route, including Pwani, Morogoro, and Dodoma.
RC Chalamila urged TRC to involve local communities in project implementation by providing small-scale jobs such as cleaning and maintenance.
“When communities participate and benefit from these projects, they take ownership and help protect the railway infrastructure,” he said.
Highlighting the city’s rapid growth and traffic challenges, RC Chalamila called on TRC to explore ways to ease congestion through urban modern railway services.
He further stressed the need to complete railway links to the port to reduce truck traffic on the roads and boost national economic growth.
Responding, TRC CEO Machibya Masanja assured the Regional Commissioner that the corporation is implementing government directives and is ready to expand modern railway networks, starting with Dar es Salaam and Dodoma.
This visit underscores the government’s drive to ensure modern transport infrastructure not only supports economic growth but also actively involves citizens in safeguarding and benefiting from national projects.
