The Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), has called for improved tourism services and markets at Kitulo National Park, aiming to attract more visitors and boost economic opportunities in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands.
Speaking during her visit to the park today, December 17, 2025, Dr. Kijaji emphasized the need to open new avenues for jobs and income while reducing the region’s over-reliance on tourism in a single area.
“We must strengthen tourism services and markets here at Kitulo to create economic opportunities for local communities and increase national revenue,” she said.
Senior Assistant Commissioner for Southern Conservation, Godwell Meing’ataki, highlighted the park’s commitment to sustainable conservation.
He said TANAPA focuses on protecting ecosystems, managing natural resources, and partnering with surrounding communities.
He also noted ongoing efforts to upgrade park facilities, including accommodation, visitor services, and educational programs, all aimed at extending tourists’ stays and increasing tourism revenue.
During the visit, Minister Kijaji was accompanied by Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande (MP), Deputy Permanent Secretary Nkoba Mabula, and other officials from the ministry and TANAPA.
She toured the park’s key attractions, including its famous native flowers, waterfalls, and wildlife.
Kitulo National Park, renowned for its unique highland scenery and biodiversity, remains a flagship for sustainable tourism and a key contributor to national economic growth.
