Dar es Salaam is set for a thrilling end to the year as the seventh season of the popular Knockout ya Mama boxing event takes centre stage on December 31 at the Posta Grounds in Kijitonyama.
The high-profile tournament, organised by Mafia Boxing Promotion, will feature 14 bouts involving both local and international boxers, with prestigious PST and WBO Africa championship belts on the line.
Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, Mafia Boxing Promotion Director Ally Zayumba said preparations for the event were at an advanced stage, with boxers and their trainers intensifying training to ensure Tanzanian fighters dominate the ring and retain the coveted titles.
“We are coming in much stronger this season. Knockout ya Mama has delivered real results for our boxers. Many started from the grassroots, but today they are rising through the ranks, earning two, three, and even three-and-a-half star ratings,” Zayumba said.
He noted that the steady growth of the tournament has created room to include boxers outside Mafia Boxing Promotion, a move he described as key to nurturing young talent and expanding opportunities within Tanzania’s professional boxing scene.
Zayumba called on Tanzanians at home and abroad to turn out in large numbers to support the fighters, stressing that fan support plays a crucial role in boosting performance and keeping championship belts on home soil. Ticket prices have been set at Sh10,000 for general admission, Sh20,000 for VIP, and Sh50,000 for VVIP.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chairperson of the Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC), Jacob Mbuya, commended Mafia Boxing Promotion for maintaining high organisational standards and ensuring compliance with professional boxing regulations.
Mbuya confirmed that the commission has officially sanctioned the event, noting that all boxers have passed medical examinations, possess valid licenses, and have undergone proper training.
“We urge boxing fans to come out in large numbers on that day to support the athletes who will be stepping into the ring,” he said.
He added that the commission expects to officially launch the national PST championship belts during Knockout ya Mama Season Seven, marking a significant milestone in the growth of professional boxing in Tanzania.
