Residents of Ileje District have commended the Government for the construction of the 52-kilometre Isongole–Isoko road, saying the project is already transforming livelihoods and unlocking new economic opportunities in the area.

Ileje District Commissioner Farida Mgomi said the ongoing construction of the road and bridges has created employment opportunities for youths and women, while significantly improving connectivity within the district.

She assured contractors of full cooperation from the local administration to ensure the projects are completed efficiently and deliver real benefits to the community.

Speaking during an inspection tour led by Deputy Minister for Works, Eng Godfrey Kasekenya, Ms Mgomi urged residents to use the improved infrastructure to raise their incomes and contribute to national economic growth.

She noted that the projects have injected substantial funds into the local economy and called on residents to protect the investments by working hard and using them productively.

Residents of Sange and Isoko wards said the road will greatly enhance trade in food crops and other commercial activities by reducing transport costs and improving access to markets.

They added that the road will also ease the movement of people and delivery of social services, particularly in the district’s hilly areas.

Deputy Minister Kasekenya, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ileje, thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for opening up the highland zone through the construction of a tarmac road.

He pledged close supervision of the project to ensure it meets required standards and supports the Government’s goal of accelerating economic growth.

He described the Isongole–Isoko road as a strategic investment that will link farmers to markets, attract business activities and support long-term development in Ileje District.
