The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, on Wednesday arrived in Iringa Region to kick off an official working tour focused on strengthening conservation initiatives and promoting tourism as a key driver of economic growth.
Dr Kijaji reported to the office of the Iringa Regional Commissioner shortly after her arrival, marking the start of a visit that will see the government review ongoing conservation projects and engage regional authorities on strategies to maximise the benefits of natural resources.
She is accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande, the ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, Nkoba Mabula, senior ministry officials, and leaders from the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA).
The ministerial delegation is expected to tour several conservation projects within Ruaha National Park, a flagship protected area in the southern tourism circuit that plays a significant role in biodiversity protection and tourism revenue generation.
Speaking ahead of the field visits, Dr Kijaji reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to work closely with the Iringa regional administration to strengthen conservation efforts and aggressively promote the region’s tourism attractions.
She said effective conservation and targeted promotion would boost the region’s economy, contribute to national growth and ensure that citizens continue to benefit sustainably from their natural resources.
