The National Sports Council (BMT) has commended the strong performance of Tanzania’s national teams in international competitions in 2025, describing the year as one of notable progress driven by improved preparation and effective collaboration with sports associations.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, BMT Executive Secretary Neema Msitha said the achievements were the result of close coordination between the council and national sports federations, which ensured that teams were adequately prepared and able to participate competitively on the international stage.
Msitha highlighted several key milestones, including Tanzania’s gold medal in athletics, impressive performances by the national boxing team, the girls’ school team clinching a championship title, and the Under-17 (U17) national team winning the CECAFA championship this year.
She also noted that BMT facilitated the participation of the national netball team in African competitions. Although the team did not record strong results, Msitha said the experience gained was a significant achievement.
“Participation was a key objective. Competing at that level allows our players to gain valuable exposure and international experience, which is essential for the long-term development of the sport,” she said.
Looking ahead, Msitha urged stakeholders working with BMT, including sports associations, to begin preparations early for the coming year by implementing agreed strategies and submitting their competition calendars on time.
She said timely planning would ease coordination and strengthen the implementation of national sports development programmes.
She emphasized that continued cooperation, proper planning and collective commitment among all stakeholders would be crucial in sustaining the gains made and further improving Tanzania’s performance in regional and international competitions.
