Deputy Minister of Energy, Salome Makamba, has called on the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) to ensure that Tanzanians directly benefit from the country’s oil and gas resources.
During her visit to TPDC and PURA offices in Dar es Salaam, Makamba stressed that oil and gas development should create jobs, improve social services, and provide affordable energy for citizens.
She urged TPDC to accelerate the distribution of natural gas to households, enabling more Tanzanians to access this essential resource at lower costs.
She also praised TPDC’s ongoing exploration and development efforts, noting that they are already producing positive results in energy availability across the country.
Salome commended PURA for its role in fostering a friendly investment environment. She emphasized that attracting new investors will create more jobs and ensure Tanzanians gain tangible benefits from the country’s resources.
She highlighted the importance of prioritizing projects such as LNG initiatives to boost efficiency and maximize national benefits.
“All government institutions under the Ministry must put citizens first when managing energy projects and monitor the implementation of government directives to ensure that natural gas resources benefit the people,” she said.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Dr. James Mataragio, called on TPDC to increase gas production and supply so that energy reaches more households.
He also encouraged PURA to give priority to investors in ways that generate government revenue while ensuring local communities benefit from oil and gas projects.
TPDC Managing Director, Mussa Makame, said the corporation is strengthening infrastructure for storing and transporting oil and gas.
He highlighted ongoing expansion projects, including small-scale LNG initiatives, which will deliver gas to regions across Tanzania affordably and on time.
PURA CEO, Eng. Charles Sangweni, reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to implementing its mandate efficiently and contributing to the sector’s growth, in line with Tanzania’s Vision 2050.
