Bagamoyo District Commissioner, Shaibu Ndemanga, has commended the Agency for the Development of Educational Management (ADEM) for successfully coordinating and actively participating in a marathon designed to rally support for improving the institution’s education infrastructure.
Speaking yesterday in Bagamoyo, Pwani Region, Mr. Ndemanga said the initiative demonstrated ADEM’s commitment not only to promoting physical fitness among its staff but also to advancing the broader agenda of strengthening learning facilities.
He emphasised that regular exercise plays a critical role in enhancing both mental and physical well-being, ultimately improving productivity at the workplace.
“I congratulate ADEM for the excellent preparation of these races, which have become a model event due to the large turnout of participants from within the institution,” he said.
Mr. Ndemanga encouraged participants to join the ADEM Jogging Club to maintain a consistent exercise routine, noting that such habits are vital in combating non-communicable diseases.
He revealed that his office is planning to organise a marathon that will bring together all higher-learning institutions in Bagamoyo District as part of efforts to promote tourism and showcase the district’s rich attractions.
“We have agreed to set a special day for these races, which will connect institutions within Bagamoyo and surrounding areas, helping promote tourism while encouraging a culture of fitness,” he noted.
The DC added that sporting events create valuable platforms for social engagement, health promotion and talent development.
For his part, ADEM Chief Executive Officer, Dr Maulid, said the marathon—held for the first time—will now be institutionalised as an annual event aimed at promoting both Bagamoyo and the college to stakeholders.
He explained that ADEM’s infrastructure is currently outdated and requires renovation, adding that the marathon provides an avenue for partners and supporters to visit the institution, understand its needs and contribute to improvements.
Dr Maulid also noted that the event aligns with the district’s efforts under Mr. Ndemanga’s leadership to promote sports and community health through regular athletic activities.
